mt. t o m

Mttom03 I had today off from work. On the weekends and my days off I like to just go natural, not put on any makeup, give my face a breather. Today I took it a step further and went natural, as in I communed with nature in one of the seven wonders of the world: Mount Tom in Holyoke.

If you’ve never been there, don’t start now, because I like the fact that I was 100% alone, watching the waters rush in small brooks. I had forgotten until I got there that all that rain we had would create rushing waters like you would never expect in the city that everyone likes to make fun of. In fact, I took some photos with my trusty phone and a couple of videos, too, so you could hear the rushing water for yourself.

Does it get any better than that? No, it doesn’t. And you wouldn’t believe the thoughts that go through your head when it’s just you and the leaves falling around you and the brook that’s been there for ages and will be there long after your iPod stops working or you have children, or you die.

It’s amazing the ideas that will rush through your head when you are not chained to your cubicle.

It’s probably best that people don’t have too much free time, because we’d probably kill ourselves trying to implement all of our ideas.

Mttom04 Even though it was a perfect day for taking off your jacket, I left mine on, with my hat, too. I didn’t want any whiny “it’s too chilly – I must turn back” excuses. Because I chill easily. When I had had my fill, I walked back down to my car and proceeded up the mountain at 15 mph, waving cars past me.

Mttom I reached Bray Tower and got out of my car. The foliage wasn’t spectacular, but it didn’t matter. The sun was beating down on me, the sky was blue as can be and there was a tower staring down on me, beckoning me to climb it. I reached the top and looked at pretty Easthampton. The photo on the right shows the shadow that was cast by the tower. That’s me waving at the top. I don’t know why the asphalt looks as blue as sky.

By the time I got back down, I had been on the mountain for more than an hour, although it felt like a day.
