Albino Peacock
I love when my grandma sends me email FWDS, especially when the subject is something funny like “Albino Peacock.” How can you NOT click on that?

My apologies to you grandmother, but the white pea fowl is merely a variant of the usually-seen India Blue and not a true albino (in which an eye-pigment change -to red- would also be present). There is also a “black shouldered” variant which is quite pretty.
When I was growing up, the zoo at Forest Park in Springfield had several of each of these variants at different times. I was enthralled and asked a lot of quesions.

Pea fowl are neat birds. They make awesome watchdogs (they’re loud as hell, big and mean as some swans, and very territorial), which is one reason (other than their obvious beauty) why they were so popular with the aristocracy. The peahen is not nearly as spectacular as the peacock, but still very pretty. There’s also some cross-breeding done with the related Guinea fowl that produces an interesting mottled variant.
Birds are way cool in general.
