Peter Tork – jerk or not? You decide

Check out this video of Ex-Monkee Peter Tork interviewing my co-worker Greg Tulonen (aka THE Movie Boy) outside of a film premiere in Northampton Thursday night. If you don’t have Flash Player, you should probably get it. Or you can read this handy transcript:

Movie Boy: Thanks for talking to me.
Peter Tork: I haven’t yet.
Movie Boy: OK, well now you have.
Peter Tork: I was talking to him over there….
Movie Boy: Oh. Ok. Can you tell me who you play in the movie?
Peter Tork: No.
Movie Boy: OK.
Peter Tork: [grabs the mic] I do not know my character’s name. [returns mic]
Movie Boy: OK um … Can you tell me how you got involved in the project?
Peter Tork: Uh yeah… Donnie Moorhead, uh, Moor, uh uh, asked me.
Movie Boy: Donnie Moorhouse.
Peter Tork: Donnie Moorhouse asked me just said you wanna do this thing? I said absolutely.
Movie Boy: Excellent. You didn’t even read the script you just said yes right off the bat?
Peter Tork: I was in the neighborhood. I had nothing to do but this, so I did it.
Movie Boy: How long was the shoot?
Peter Tork: [gestures in order to indicate some physical length of the shoot] How are you framing? However wide… about this long.
Movie Boy: Can you tell me about any other projects you’re working on right now?
Peter Tork: You really don’t care about these answers do you? You’re just, oh, he says he does.
Movie Boy: I care deeply.
Patrick [camera operator]: He’s Movie Boy
Peter Tork: He’s… one more time?
Patrick: he’s movie boy on MassLive. People listen to him.
Peter Tork: Ok. Um, what was the question? Other projects? Shoe Suede Blues my band. Peter Tork and Shoe Suede Blues is my blues band. That’s what I do, that’s what I love to do and that’s what I hope to do more of.
Movie Boy: OK.
Patrick: Are you planning on coming to Northampton?
Peter Tork: I am in Northampton
Patrick: yeah, but I mean to play with your…
Peter Tork: Oh yes, I hope to, obviously I would love to if I can, whoever allows me to play in Northampton that’s what I want to do. Just let me play. All I ask is that you answer.
Movie Boy: Alright
Movie Boy: Thanks for talking to me.

Actually, it warmed my heart to see that Peter Tork is the exact same guy that he was in The Monkees.

No, he isn’t a jerk. He is eccentric. He has one of those off-the-wall personalities that I happen to love. And did I happen to mention I think he’s really cute????????

P.S. I personally think he’s the cutest Monkee:)

It’s real disturbing that he can film a movie and not know a thing about what he is doing!

That was Peter Tork’s character in the Monkees. Obviously you have never seen the show. The show was made for teenyboppers in the late 1960’s. The Monkees played off the wall characters. Just a lot of nonsense. The real Peter Thorkelson is said to be an intellectual. Monkee fans expect to connect with the Monkee characters not the real people that they are. You interviewed Peter Tork, the character, not Peter Thorkelson, the real person playing the character. You got what you asked for.
