you had me before buttocks

Lisaloeb Before I headed out for the evening last night I found myself sucked into that #1 Single show on E! (with Lisa Loeb).

I don’t know what is the cause of this. I was sucked in way before she revealed her buttocks on said program. It could be that she comes across as so intelligent and pretty and charming that I couldn’t believe she was single.

What is wrong with men, I thought?

As it turns out she had just ended a six-year relationship with Dweezil Zappa when approached about the show.

On the show, the first guy she went on a date with? He got in front of a karaoke machine and sang the song she is famous for – “Stay” – need I add that he sang it very badly.

The second guy seemed alright, if a little bit dapper.

Tentative link

Allegedly this is the non Katie-Couric-Bob-Costas version of Bjork’s Olympic performance, but I haven’t gotten it to load yet. The fact that it may exist, though, is a good sign for us all.

Hot off the Presses

marthaEPRead my story for Martha Wainwright’s upcoming show at MassMoCA. Martha rocks and so does her music. I am not kidding when I tell you to listen to the mp3 samples.

The Year Punk Was Released on DVD

I sort of resurrected a deep desire to see this movie — The Year Punk Broke — after seeing this show — The Autism Benefit with Sebadoh, Sonic Youth, J. Mascis, et al. But, it looks like it’s only available on VHS. I, uh, don’t have a VCR. Damn!

Show me

I wrote a review of the Sonic Youth benefit show. Unbeknownst to me until the next day, TIRH taped a snippet of the Deep Wound reunion song. I tried to upload it to Typepad so you could hear it alive with pleasure! But, I can’t get it to upload, so you’ll have to sit on your hands and wait.

According to one of my taper friends (I write that as if I have several taper friends – I don’t) who caught audio of the show, there is talk of mastering and releasing a video. I don’t know if it’s worth a videologue, (other than the fact that TIRH’s head will be featured prominently for the first half of it) but I’d love to have the audio.

Please Please Please let me get what I want

Witness this fabulous clip of the Bishop Allen Flywheel show in August. And when you are done with that, watch this one. And then read my crazy, wacky plea on Sound Check. I’m insane today. Just today, though.

superb

Caught a fabulous show at the Eagles Nest tonight. Cyclub were amazing, of course. I was told there were not enough pictures of the band here. I will do my best to remedy that. It’s really an honor to know that some of them read this blog. Really. I’m humbled.

Anyway, they are playing a show at Bard College in NY Friday night. We think we’re gonna go. No mention of the show on the college’s website, so I guess we’ll just drive around until we find where it’s at. Oh wait, did I mention that Wharton Tiers with special guest J.Mascis played tonight? Yeah, that happened, too. And the Bears. They are fabulously fun punk. And what else, the Supreme Dicks, and Heaven’s Lament (who jogged my memory of this little group called Depeche Mode, you may have heard of them? Their little set took me back to high school dances, man).

I can’t sleep.

My cats are fighting.

Good night.
